Macugnaga is a peaceful alpine village situated at the foot of the eastern slope of the majestic Monte Rosa, in the middle of a green valley dotted with pine forests. It rises to 1300 m. altitude in a valley and offers an enchanting tourist resort of the highest quality. Macugnaga is, in summer, the ideal starting point for hiking and climbing routes, trekking, and during the winter you can make the best use of its infrastructure. Over time the location is not always able to support the growing investment that modern skiin requires. The park equipment is rather dated.
The high altitude ensures a constant snow record, creating the best atmosphere for a relaxing weekend.
The lovers of winter sports can take advantage of the 37 km of ski slopes, 20 km of cross-country skiing, field hockey and skating rink lit for the opening night.
Alpine Guides organize climbing ice waterfalls and hikes at all levels of ski mountaineering, to allow even the less experienced to enjoy the wonders of this charming village in safety.

Monterosa Ski announces new lifts for season 2009/2010

On 19 April 2009 will be disputed, the 17th edition of the Trofeo Mezzalama, beginning at Breuil Cervinia, through the Val d'Ayas and ends in Gressoney Valley. A marathon with classic equipment, whether international, starting in line open to teams of three athletes / and roped. A challenge along a difficult path that winds especially over three thousand meters, passing in two even four thousand. The pre-enrollment for the year 2009 came to 397 teams, compared with 260 two years ago to 115, 2005. Each team has three athletes. A contract is regulated by FISI (Italian Federation of Winter Sports) and the 'ISMF (International Ski Mountaineering Federation).

Avalanches, know to avoid them

Avalanche danger is danger of death. In Italy in the last 20 years have on average 19 deaths a year due to the Avalanche. The vast majority of deaths occurs by suffocation, but many also perish as a result of injuries. The possibility of being found alive after an avalanche decreases dramatically over time: after 15 minutes, only one third of persons completely buried under the snow is still alive. The surest way to escape the death consists in not to be overwhelmed!
