Campo Imperatore, is a beautiful tourist resort, situated at 1120 meters above sea level at the foot of Corno Grande, the highest peak of the Gran Sasso and the Apennines.
The ski resort of Campo Imperatore was founded around 50 years ago and has some of the most modern facilities in central Italy, with about 60 kilometers of trails for cross country skiing, with a series of circuits that wind along the beautiful plateau of Campo Imperatore.
Of the famous canyons of the Gran Sasso and the various off-piste ski-touring routes, the best known is the descent of the three valleys.
Lifts lead up to 2233 meters on Mount Scindarella and natural snowfall is often heavy. In past seasons it was among the Italian ski resorts with the most snow, even reaching five meters of snow at the peak. The peak of Corno Grande, 2912 m above sea level, holds the "Cauldron", the southernmost glacier in Europe.
