Cortina 2021 presents itself at the Milan Triennale dreaming of the Games of 2026
Last night at the Milan Triennale, a meeting was held at the Triennale of the Alpine Ski World Championships 2021, with an eye towards the candidacy of Milan-Cortina and the dream of the Winter Olympic Games of 2026.The appointment, moderated by Luca Ubaldeschi, Deputy Vice-Director of La Stampa, was attended by Giuseppe Sala, Mayor of the Municipality of Milan, Gianpietro Ghedina, Mayor of the Municipality of Cortina d'Ampezzo, and Alessandro Benetton, President of the Cortina Foundation 2021. A evening to illustrate to the media the work that is being done in Cortina to better prepare the World Ski Championships of 2021 which currently represent the most important sporting event organized in Italy in the coming years.
Alessandro Benetton wanted to remember the numbers of the world champion: eleven days of men's and women's downhill races, super-G, giant, slalom and, for the first time, individual parallel, which will bring to Cortina over 600 athletes from 70 nations, ready to win the 11 world titles up for grabs. 6,000 people are expected among professionals, volunteers, technicians, athletic trainers, skimen and managers and 150 thousand spectators.
"It will be an opportunity for Cortina, Veneto and certainly for all of Italy - said the husband of Deborah Compagnoni - We wanted to set up a work based on sustainability, on young people, on the future and on the involvement of the territory. in the light of what has recently happened with the bad weather, sustainability is really the strategic driver for building tomorrow, and we have followed this criterion to realize the new tracks that we will test in the coming weeks and to design the new arrival of Rumerlo that will give life to a new landscape We will succeed to surprise everyone, our legacy will be fundamental for the next stage that I hope will be the Olympics! "
The mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala focused on the prospect of having the 2026 Olympics that he considers good, since only Stockholm remained in the race because the candidacy of Calgary was swept away by no to the popular referendum: "Our proposal is strongly innovative and very in line with the IOC lines, with few investments and respectful from the environmental point of view, we can field the capacity of a great international city like Milan with an iconic place like Cortina. "
The mayor of Cortina d'Ampezzo Gianpietro Ghedina has chosen the metaphor to comment on a combination that he says is fantastic for the Olympic race: "Today I started with the sun and arrived in the fog. We are poetry, Milan is prose. Mountain and city, two complementary realities. But tonight we are here to tell you all our commitment to work for a great World Ski in 2021, the starting point of this whole process. We are also gearing up as locations: over 15 hotels are undergoing major renovations while 2 will arise entirely new for the World Championships. I am waiting for everyone in January when we will test the new track and the arrival with the Women's World Cup. "
In closing, Alessandro Benetton wanted to thank all the Cortina 2021 project partners who are actively supporting the construction of the World Championship, especially the two newcomers Leitner and Gruppo Tecnica.
