Champorcher, in the valley, stands at an altitude of 1427 meters and is a picturesque village among high mountains, surrounded by meadows and forests of larch. The climate is typically alpine, and summer is very dry and temperate. In the center of the country there are the ruins of the castle, called the Chateau (now only the old tower remains) and the ancient church of San Nicola (XVIII sec.), which has a bell tower from 1548.
From Chardonney, the lifts start to the beautiful ski area of Champorcher. Its ski area is suitable for skilled skiers, it has many sections on challenging 20Km of slopes before it. The resort is the destination of many who love cross country: here you can find many routes immersed in the unspoilt environments of the valley.

On 19 April 2009 will be disputed, the 17th edition of the Trofeo Mezzalama, beginning at Breuil Cervinia, through the Val d'Ayas and ends in Gressoney Valley. A marathon with classic equipment, whether international, starting in line open to teams of three athletes / and roped. A challenge along a difficult path that winds especially over three thousand meters, passing in two even four thousand. The pre-enrollment for the year 2009 came to 397 teams, compared with 260 two years ago to 115, 2005. Each team has three athletes. A contract is regulated by FISI (Italian Federation of Winter Sports) and the 'ISMF (International Ski Mountaineering Federation).

Una gara di sci alpinismo in notturna che per complessità, lunghezza e per l’impegno tecnico richiesto ai partecipanti può essere paragonata alla SellaRonda Skimarathon, dalla quale si differenzia solo per avere un tracciato leggermente più breve.
